UNC Hussman, faculty and alumni help build a pipeline for Latinos into the media industry, working to strengthen representation of Latino and Hispanic journalists while expanding the coverage of stories that affect those communities.

This week marks 20 years since UNC Hussman alumnus and Tar Heel Sports Network radio crew member Stephen Kennedy Gates '98 was killed in a hit-and-run accident. He was 27 years old.

CNN Correspondent Leyla Santiago joined UNC Hussman as the school’s inaugural Frank A. Daniels Jr. Executive-in-Residence in fall 2023.

Experienced journalist and community leader Carl Kenney joined UNC Hussman as a teaching assistant professor in the fall 2023 semester. Kenney is leading the revitalization of The VOICE community publication covering Durham, North Carolina.

The UNC Hussman student-produced “Carolina Connection” radio program has won the 2023 Edward R. Murrow Award for the nation’s best student audio newscast.

Leaders at UNC-Chapel Hill and its longtime strategic partner Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen in Germany are finding new pathways for interdisciplinary collaborations.

This summer, UNC Hussman senior Jasmine Baker has been interning for USA Baseball, the governing body for amateur baseball, as a broadcaster and reporter. Her story was recently featured by University Communications.

The list of what makes Chapel Hill special is long, and mixed in with all the stores, offices and restaurants that typically draw people downtown is a more subtle attraction that can make a walk through Chapel Hill feel like a stroll through an art museum. Chapel Hill and Carrboro are home to more than a dozen murals that brighten the town and honor and celebrate the community.
