Lisa Stockman Mauriello of Summit, N.J., passed away on Aug. 4, 2021. Visitation will be Aug. 8  (6 p.m. – 9 p.m.) and Aug. 9  (4 p.m. – 9 p.m.) at Bradley, Brough & Dangler in Summit. Funeral Mass will be at 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 10 at St. Teresa of Avila in Summit.

UNC Hussman students publish work about Olympic athletes with North Carolina ties

Olympic athletes represent determination, hard work and top-tier levels of graceful, skilled athleticism. They’re also really, really hard to get a hold of — especially during the Olympics. Students in UNC Hussman’s “MEJO 390: Tokyo Olympics” class have been finding that out as they use the Summer School course to cover the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan, which began July 23 and end on Aug. 8, 2021.

As the school’s new associate dean for development and alumni affairs, she is excited to give back to the first-class educational institution that shaped her life’s path — as an undergraduate, a student in the school's graduate-level certificate program, a volunteer and now as a professional.

Watch 2021 Olympian Brooke Raboutou climb 50 feet in under 10 seconds

The Washington Post’s augmented reality interactive video presents a 3D view of what looks like Olympian Brooke Raboutou speed-climbing the walls of your office or living room, thanks in part to UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media’s Reese Innovation Lab. Sport climbing is one of four new Olympic sports alongside skateboarding, karate and surfing to debut at the Tokyo Olympics this summer (July 23–August 8, 2021). Qualification rounds start in two weeks for climbers from around the world. The August 5 and 6 finals will combine three climbing disciplines: speed, boulders and lead. So what’s it like to climb a 50-foot-tall (15-meter) wall with 31 holds in under ten seconds for the speed climbing part of that competition?
