UNC at 103rd annual NCA conference in Dallas

Seven faculty members and graduate students will represent the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Nov. 16-19, 2017, at the 103rd annual National Communication Association (NCA) conference in Dallas, Texas.
The Carolina contingent of scholars will participate in panel sessions and present authored or co-authored papers and presentations.
The Public Relations Division of the NCA awarded Assistant Professor Adam Saffer the 2017 PRIDE Article Award for, "A Message-Focused Measurement of the Communication Dimension of Social Capital: Revealing Shared Meaning in a Network of Relationships."

Thursday, Nov. 16 — Afternoon
- Jordan Morehouse (Ph.D. student) will present, “Interaction Concepts for Pedagogical Use of Social Media.”
Friday, Nov. 17 — Afternoon
- Dan Kim will serve as a respondent on the joint session between Korean American Communication Association (KACA) and Chinese Communication Association (CCA), “Media Analysis and Public Opinion.”
- Elizabeth Adams (Ph.D. student) will present, “Trauma Surgeons’ Multiple Goals in Opioid Prescription Communication.”
- Shao Chengyuan (Ph.D. student) will present, “Internet Defamation in China: Criminal Cases since the 2013 Supreme People’s Court Judicial Interpretation.”
Saturday, Nov. 18 — Morning
- Deborah Dwyer (Ph.D. student) will participate in the panel session, “Waging War Against the Media: Donald Trump Battling the Forces of the First Amendment and a Free Press.”
- Adam Saffer will chair the panel session, “Rising Trends for Relevancy in Public Relations.”
Saturday, Nov. 18 — Afternoon
- Adam Saffer will present, “The Cocreational Legacy and Relevance to Engagement: A Meaning-Centered Approach to Activism Scholarship in Public Relations.”
Sunday, Nov. 19 — Morning
- Joseph Cabosky will participate in the panel session, “Social Media and Elections: Global Relevance, Diversity Legacies.”
