Senior wins American Copy Editors Society scholarship

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media student Marisa DiNovis was one of five winners of scholarships from the American Copy Editors Society (ACES).
DiNovis, a senior from Sayville, New York, will receive a $1,000 scholarship and up to $500 to attend the ACES national conference in Pittsburgh in March.
"This is a big honor for Marisa," said associate professor Andy Bechtel. "These are highly competitive scholarships that recognize the best student editors in the country."
DiNovis is interested in a career in book publishing. She has been an intern at several publishers, including Algonquin Books in Chapel Hill and Scholastic in New York. She has also worked as a copy editor at The Daily Tar Heel and Blue & White magazine.
Started in 1997, ACES is made up of about 1,000 editors from news, academia, government and public relations. One of the organization’s co-founders is Bill Cloud, who taught at the school for more than 30 years before his retirement last year.
