9 UNC Hussman School students win photography, multimedia awards in CPOY competition; Van Houten named college photographer of the year

Nine UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media students were recognized in the 70th College Photographer of the Year (CPOY) competition. The Carolina Photojournalim Workshop's "Rooted in the Rapids" won the large group multimedia project. Carolyn Van Houten, a recent graduate, was named the college photographer of the year.
The CPOY competition is the world's largest and most prestigious photojournalism and multimedia competition for students.
Winners were announced Nov. 12, 2015, in the still photography division and Nov. 15, 2015, in the multimedia division.

Judges for the multimedia division were Vignoles, Danny Gawlowski, photo and video editor for The Seattle Times; and Jim Seida, senior multimedia producer for NBC News.
