Students take top spots in Hearst multimedia competition

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media students took the top two spots in the multimedia competition’s features category of the Hearst Journalism Awards.
Carolina photojournalism students Jonathan Kasbe, a junior, and Caitlyn Greene, a May 2011 graduate, placed first and second, respectively. Kasbe will receive a $2,600 scholarship for his winning entry “Make a noise if you can hear me,” which was featured at Reesenews.org. Greene will receive a $2,000 scholarship for “here, after: life, death and the space between” from American Dream X.
Carolina is the reigning back-to-back champion in the overall intercollegiate competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards.??
Carolina is currently first overall in accumulated student points in the Hearst intercollegiate multimedia competition. The final multimedia school ranks will be announced after the second multimedia competition in April. Points from the multimedia competitions will be added to writing, photo and broadcast competition points to determine the overall intercollegiate winners.
